J. Allen Smith is Chairman of the Board of the Dallas, Texas, law firm of SettlePou. He has been board-certified in civil trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1992. Allen is Association Counsel for OAAA and has represented the outdoor advertising industry in many legal matters for more than 35 years. Allen was inducted into the OAAA Hall of Fame in 2019.
Allen has represented industry members in disputes with governmental entities and private parties, including condemnation, trespass, lease disputes, and other real property-related disputes. He has also submitted briefings on behalf of the industry regarding Attorney General opinions. He has assisted several times in authoring legislation and testifying before the Texas State Senate and House of Representatives. He has numerous published cases in the Texas State and U.S. Appellate Courts on behalf of the industry.
